Welcome to Deep in the Meadow, a literate semi-AU Warrior cats roleplay site with a 200 word minimum. DitM features a sandbox play style, a stat system for character development, staff-run NPC accounts for events and encounters, and an overarching political landscape to help structure characters and interactions. Territories are refreshed, but will remain familiar to Warriors RPers. Play as a member of the four Clans or as a Clanless cat - and enjoy!
UPDATES - 06/22/17 We have a couple of at-risk-of-starvation notices going out! First up in ThunderClan for the clan's decision to not hunt rodents of any kind (if you have questions on what is and is not a rodent consult google or mink) leaving them left with little option. The clan must claim more territory or get crafty to avoid starvation notices from going out. SkyClan, for no claimed territory for themselves to support the clan, is also at risk of finding starvation notices in their PM boxes unless something is done soon to get territory ;D Quick reminder that SkyClan deputy is still open for audition, and see below for information on our June activity check.
UPDATES - 06/21/17 A June activity check is up here and goes until June 27th. Please post in it, an away, or speak to staff before then. The site's season has been changed from new-leaf to green-leaf.
UPDATES - 06/16/17 A big thank you to everyone that applied for WindClan deputy! Staff would like to congratulate Mutt and Cranefrost on getting the position, and everyone can look forward to a Clan meeting being started to announce it IC shortly. Again, each and every audition was greatly appreciated.
UPDATES - 06/13/17 The deadline for WindClan deputy auditions is set for Friday, June 16th. Please send in your auditions by then so staff has time to review all of them. If you know that you'll need more time to get your audition submitted, then contact a staff member sooner rather than later and we'll happily extend the deadline. The interest so far has been greatly appreciated. If you've been on the fence about auditioning, then don't hesitate to plot with me (Cheshire) a little in private as long as you're respectful towards other auditions we've received having the fair chance they deserve. Thank you!
UPDATES - 06/06/17 SkyClan is finally rolling with a temporary camp of their own, a flashy new member group, roster, clan politic, and meet the clan (wip) page! Be sure to check that all out and let a staff member know if your clanless cat is for sure joining SkyClan so we can get their bios moved over. SkyClan currently has a meeting up here. With Sequoia planning on getting her lives (life adopts up here) SkyClan deputy is now open for audition. As no one will have mentored an apprentice at this point (and Sequoia is far from traditional) any age (barring the ridiculous) is encouraged to apply! RiverClan has a new meeting up as well--find that here! And a final reminder that WindClan deputy is also open for audition.
UPDATES - 06/01/17 With Daffodilstar and Kestrelstar both dead, and Muskegstar being forced to step down, we have quite a few shifts in high ranks. Piedheart will be taking over in ThunderClan, but deputy will be handled IC. Grayowl is taking over in WindClan, and WindClan deputy is now open for audition. Goosethorn is expected to take over in RiverClan, and deputy will be handled IC there as well. WindClan medicine cat apprentice is left vacant, but it will be up to Rainbow when that opens--please respect that and do not pester them to do it sooner rather than later. We have life giver threads popping up, and you can expect to see our site's first few life ceremonies starting soon, too!
UPDATES - 05/23/17 The site has been aged and our inactive member group deleted. Please check to see if any of your characters have moved up into a new age bracket (and claim the new stats) or are ready for their apprentice/warrior name. If you do have a cat ready for a new name you can contact your clan leader if you'd like a ceremony, but may otherwise simply request a name change and update your directories. The census has been updated as well and we'd like to point out that WindClan is sorely lacking and are encouraged. Male and nonbinary characters, in general, are encouraged as well.
UPDATES - 05/14/17 Reminder that we adjusted the stat caps for each of the age brackets in our stat system. You can read about that here. We will make adjustments if we find people hitting them more often than not, but for now we think it's more realistic. Additionally we have added a few new items to out site shop (Move to clanless, One Night Stand, "Fix It", Reincarnation, Makeover, Clanless Perk, Relation to a past high rank, Stat Cap Addition, Threads to Points). You can view what those are here. If you have questions please message Mink!
UPDATES - 05/08/17 Our activity check is complete! If you have been deleted and would like to rejoin please feel free. If you have been moved to our inactive member group you have two weeks to notify staff that you are still around (please include links to all your threads and bios you need/want moved back). At the end of two weeks accounts will be deleted. We did not age, but some mentors/apprentices were moved around so be sure to check the thread to confirm your pairings. Be sure to check out our updated bans & bribes as well. Big thank you to those of you who are still with us! ;D
UPDATES - 05/02/17 We'd like to congratulate Rainbow and Persephone on WindClan Medicine Cat and give a big thank you to all those who auditioned--this was a tough one for staff (and Sully!) to decide. Friendly reminder that we have an activity check going on here. Please be sure to post there, PM staff, or post an away by May 8th in order to avoid being moved into the inactive member group and having your characters archived. We will not be aging the site this time around because a few of our major plots have been a bit stalled IC due to real life issues, but an age up will likely occur later this month. Lastly Cake is asking for help in finding a new camp for ShadowClan here.
UPDATES - 04/30/17 Deadline for WindClan medicine cat has been set for Tuesday, May 2nd. Please send in your auditions by that evening to ensure that staff has time to review them. If you need an extension (i.e. you really want to audition, but other obligations or real life stuff won't allow you to apply within the time restraint), then please let us know as soon as possible. Also, just a reminder that we've still got a couple of rogues available to be adopted in the feral colony event.
UPDATES - 04/29/17 Complete April OTM nominations here ASAP! Everyone is eligible to nominate, even if you've only been here a couple of weeks, so show up & show out!
UPDATES - 04/26/17 A big thank you to all of you who auditioned for SkyClan leader! Staff has discussed and we would like to congratulate Fallow and Sequoia on SkyClan leader. For simplicity sake we will just assume Sequoia got the dream from StarClan/Gladestar. Because of Lichenpaw's (WC MCA) age and Sandfire's current away we would like to take on a full medicine cat versus moving such a young cat up so as of now we are officially opening WindClan Medicine Cat for auditions. We will entertain all ideas submitted to us, but an already-trained-in-medicine cat coming into the clan from outside would likely be easiest to explain (you can even have them been trained by Fleur if you'd like) as well as give the clan some good drama with their deputy. Keep in mind Alligatorjaw disgraced himself to StarClan (he had kits and then left the kits out on the territory to die) when auditioning.
UPDATES - 04/24/17 Deadline for SkyClan leader will be Wednesday April 26th. Please have auditions in by the evening hours. If you are interested but know you won't finish by then please speak to staff sooner rather than later.
UPDATES - 04/20/17 Check this out! We have a new event up, this time centering around WindClan, but there are plenty of opportunities for everyone to get involved! In addition, our third challenge has come to an end. The winners are Trick in ThunderClan, Qwinn in WindClan, Cake in RiverClan, Fallow in ShadowClan, and Rainbow in Clanless! Thank you to everyone for your participation, and if you won a prize, be sure to claim it in the previously linked thread.
UPDATES - 04/18/17 Due to private matters both Mercy and Buzz will be taking a leave of absence from the site. We support their decisions to focus on themselves, and encourage them to chat with us and jump back in if and when they are ready. In the meantime this leaves us with some high ranks to fill. Staff has figured something out for RiverClan’s deputy/leader situation, but you can look forward to RC deputy possibly being open for auditions in the near future and some exciting plot happenings soon as well. We’ll be opening auditions up for SkyClan leader (please see our high rank board for the application form). In addition to the form we’d like users applying for SkC deputy to give us a brief list of their would be leader’s expected policies for the newly forming clan (you can read the meet the leader/deputy/mc things for an idea of what sort of policy you should include). We are still discussing how to handle WC MC as Buzz has requested, as it was plotted, that Alligatorjaw offended StarClan and was scorned by StarClan as the result. Once we figure out how we want to proceed we’ll announce it (if you have ideas feel free to send them to us). If you have questions please message Mink!

This is where you'll post your character bios, either finished or as WIPs to return to later. You'll also find the bio form inside -- please fill it out completely and post in the notification thread within when you are ready for staff to check your bio. Do not begin roleplaying until your bio is accepted. Staff does clean this board out every so often (usually every week or so), so if your bio has been WIP in here for a while and you don't see it, check the archives! A bio can always be moved back when it's done.
Here you can find Clan rosters, Taken Names, Mentors & Apprentices, and the like. Please follow the forms to post on each directory and help us keep our information up to date.
Tracking, plotting, and requests can be done here.
Place cats up for adoptions, request mates, and handle kitting in the appropriate subboards here.
ThunderClan's camp lies toward the north of their territory and is hidden away from prying eyes. Much of the camp's walls are built of large mossy stones, tumbled alongside and on top of one another long ago by nature or, as some claim, by StarClan themselves. Sheltering the other half of the camp is a group of trees, living and dead, that stand or lie at various angles and provide places for cats to take shelter. The leader makes their den along the stone wall, where a piece of stone leans against the wall to form a small niche. The nursery and medicine cat's den are along this wall too, where they are most protected; over time ThunderClan has dug out space under the wall for queens and kits, and a natural space created by a dense bush affords the medicine cat space for treating patients and for storing herbs. Sometimes, however, the herbs can get wet and turn bad. The elders, warriors, and apprentices sleep on the other side of camp, in or among the trees and logs. Elders usually shelter inside a hollow log, though they have been known to sleep outside when the weather is good. To address the Clan, the leader climbs on the Tall Branch above the area where the warriors often cluster.
The majority of the territory is made up of a leafy forest with thick underbrush and overhead coverage. Ground dwelling species, namely rodents, seem to make up the bulk of ThunderClan’s diet, but tree dwelling animals—like some mustelids and birds—are not out of their skillset, either. A small lake sits at the north portion of their territory with an abandoned cabin ripe with prey and trinkets; other clans often suggest ThunderClan grows fat from the easy prey it supplies. A graveyard of two-leg monsters mark the beginning of livestock fields, mainly sheep, that make up the rest of the clan’s territory. The sheep themselves rarely bother the cats, but their presence attracts numerous prey and predators to the area. Coyotes and fox seem to be the most troublesome, but the occasional mountain lion isn’t out of the question. ThunderClan cats seem to come in all coat colors, patterns, and lengths. They are often described as muscular cats; solid hunters and fighters capable of silently moving through underbrush.
RiverClan’s camp is in the quarry district of their territory. High, rocky cliffs, varying degrees of tree coverage, and man-made pools (rock quarries) filled with water define the area. The camp itself is set beneath a doming ceiling of stone that arches over to protect the camp. The camp is far from intricate; stones and vegetation are at the back of this dome that serves as RiverClan’s home. The leader’s den is located on ground level beneath leaning stones that form a shallow cave. Moss has been draped over the entrance as a means of privacy. The elder’s den and nursery are the most protected—both set in deep fissures in the stone wall that stay cool in the summer and provide shelter in the colder seasons. Warriors sleep more exposed with only a rocky outcrop and bramble walls for their den, and apprentices with something similar not far away. A singular pathway follows the right hand side of the dome with a wooden guardrail (human made) as a means to get in and out of camp if swimming is not preferred. A pool butts up to the camp that can also be used as a way in and out of camp with a thin waterfall that comes from the top of the dome. Meetings are called from a large jutting stone above the leader’s den called High Ledge.
RiverClan’s diverse territory is made up of water-filled quarries, forest, meadow, river, and waterfall and gives the clan access to more than their typical prey source of fish. While many RiverClanners remain staunch traditionalists and stuff themselves of fish, others branch and perfect stalking land based prey. Other clans fear they mean to take over the forest with their growing skillsets and taste for different prey, but the fears are yet unproven. Besides the fish the waters provide, RiverClan’s territory hosts rodents, small mammals, many species of songbird, ground nesting bird, and waterfowl and predators that include raccoon, fox, skunk, lynx, bobcat, and bear. RiverClanners are often described as beautiful cats with thick, silky pelts. Their colors trend towards grays, silvers, and calicos. They excel at swimming and fishing and often remain lean as a result.
The contested territories have long been the stomping ground for clanless cats, but recently both RiverClan and ShadowClan turned their attentions to it with intentions to take it as theirs. The territory begins with a lush forest, considered a rainforest for the amount of precipitation it gets, and features rivers, a small mountain and mine shaft, a plane crash, a grassy valley and an abandoned barn. Because of the diverse ecosystem the territory supports the prey and predator diversity is high as well. Because of the numerous hunting locations both clans think they have a better claim to it. Meanwhile clanless cats who call the territories home are caught in the crossfires.
Though ShadowClan's camp might draw some strange looks from everyone else, compared to their last one it's highly unlikely it'll be crushed in a landslide. Elders say it was abandoned long ago, the elderly two-legs leaving it to move far away. The structure, though old, is steady and keeps the rain out - though it creaks terribly in high winds. The windows have all been smashed and blown out, but the old furniture is still there. The elders live in what was once the kitchen, making nests in cupboards and bickering over their favourite spots. The nursery is in the front room, and the warriors sleep upstairs in various places. The medicine cat den is stashed away in an old, warm side room - complete with premade shelving for herbs. There is plenty of room to run around both inside and out of the old two-leg nest - and there's an old house made of glass that is still mostly intact, and perfect for sunning in during clear days. The leader can address the clan from the Tall Flatwood - a table in the dining room.
ShadowClan’s territory is heavily shadowy pine forest. The pines don’t allow for much sunshine to reach the forest floor and as a result it remains clear unlike the thick unbrush of ThunderClan’s. The dampness isn’t horrid in the forest as it all drains downhill to the swamp in the southern reaches of their territory. A quaking bog, an odd phenomenon, grows over much of the swamp and acts as a giant waterbed. Hunting is good on ShadowClan’s territory and ranges from mammals to birds to amphibians to reptiles. Not picky, ShadowClanners excel at hunting amongst the forests’s shadows as well as the mucky, wet grounds of the bog and swamp. ShadowClanners tend to be darkly colored of any fur length.
The bulk of WindClan's camp, a fairly round space ringed with rocks, boulders, and enclosed on one side by a low ridge, is open to the sky and overlooks a valley. Their camp, while not protected in the same way as the other Clans', is fairly high up and they can see attacks coming from a long way off in any direction, making them difficult to surprise. It's also difficult to find their camp in the first place, as it's not set out with walls and such. In true WindClan fashion, warriors and apprentices will often sleep in the open, but there are clusters of bushes, overlaid with branches from shrubs and the few trees on the territory for warmth, that serve as shelter during the cold seasons or when the weather is bad. The leader's den is dug underneath the Tall Boulder, from which meetings are called. Unlike the warriors' and apprentices' dens, the elders' den, nursery, and medicine cat's den are far more well protected. Elders sleep in the shelter of a cluster of bushes, extensively reinforced with branches and grasses, while the medicine cat's den is a former fox hole, extended and widened to hold herbs and patients as well as the medicine cat themselves, in the lee of a ridge opposite the Tall Boulder. The nursery is nearby, dug into the ground where a fox had once made a home, and masked at the entrance by a thick bush, insulating the den from weather and forcing a bit more care when entering.
WindClan’s territory is open unlike the majority of the other clan’s territories. WindClanner’s claim to fame is their speed, and for their speed to be put to use they require few obstacles. Their territory ranges from rocky flatlands, hardy prairies, and even fertile farmlands, but each area just as treeless and lacking in thick undergrowth as the last. Their main source of prey is rabbits that live over all their territory, but the clan never passes up the ground nesting prairie birds and plethora of rodents, either. WindClan cats tend to sport neutral and short-furred pelts to both blend in to their territory and minimize drag while hunting. They tend to be lean, fleet-footed cats, but of course there is variation within their ranks.
Neutral territories, outside Clan borders and belonging to no cat, lie within.
These territories are sacred, marked by StarClan as places where fighting and bloodshed are forbidden. No one Clan may control these places, as they are meant for all the Clans to use for Gathering purposes and for leaders and medicine cats to confer with StarClan.
These lands mark the borders between Clans. Border patrols scentmark the lines to make sure no cat has any excuse for trespassing.
